Description

The “Day with a Ranger” experience in Armenia offers a rare and meaningful opportunity to step inside the world of professional conservation. Guests spend a full day alongside an experienced ranger in one of two stunning protected landscapes: Urtsadzor, adjacent to the Khosrov Forest State Reserve — one of the oldest protected areas in the world (established in the 4th century) — or the wild highlands of Vayots Dzor Province, home to the Gnishik Protected Landscape and some of the richest biodiversity in the South Caucasus.

Unlike a standard wildlife tour in Armenia, this programme is focused on environmental education and behind-the-scenes insight into how a protected area actually functions. Throughout the day, you’ll learn about ecosystem protection, wildlife monitoring, camera-trap data collection, anti-poaching patrols, sustainable land management, and the long-term work of recovering threatened species such as the Bezoar goat and the Caucasian leopard.

Both locations offer direct access to important biodiversity hotspots of the South Caucasus — Urtsadzor’s semi-desert ecosystems, oak forests, and canyons, or Vayots Dzor’s red cliffs, dramatic gorges, and high mountain plateaus.

This is a meaningful ecotourism experience in Armenia for travellers who want to go beyond sightseeing and gain a real understanding of sustainable tourism in the Caucasus region and the people working on the ground to protect it.
